Directed by David O. Russell and written by him and Eric Warren Singer, the film stars Christian Bale, Amy Adams, Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence and Jeremy Renner. The film is about a couple of con artists that get mixed up with a slightly deranged FBI agent and find themselves on the wrong end of a dangerous deal.
The film could definitely be categorized as a dramedy. David O. Russell is an extraordinary storyteller gifted with the ability of getting staggering performances out of his actors. Once again we see the undeniable talent that is Bradley Cooper and Jennifer Lawrence; it is the narcissistic driven madness of both of their characters that brings the majority of the comedy to the film; well that, and Amy Adams’ inability to do anything resembling an English accent. The amalgamation of talent behind this film is nothing short of remarkable.
The other thing I want to talk about is the fashion; it is what first attracted me to this film in the first place. I was watching the trailer and all I could think was “my God Amy Adams has never looked so stunning.” Michael Wilkinson and the team of hair and makeup folks on this film did such a spectacular job. Not only did they manage to completely transform Christian Bale, but they captured the glory of disco and made it elegant and extremely glamorous.
I would definitely recommend watching this film, if only for the cameo’s, nutty characters and Amy Adams’ plunging neck lines!
